We have seen Salma Hayek in some action thrillers in past, but not like this upcoming action thriller in which she single handedly takes on assassins to rescue her loved ones. This is absolutely not the charming and romantic Salma Hayek we have been watching since several years.
Salma Hayek’s action-thriller “Everly” (directed by Joe Lynch) has attained the rights of film distribution in the United States with the help of Dimension and Radius-TWC. The film has been planned for a 4th-quarter launch throughout the US. Salma Hayek is co-starring with Togo Igawa (known for Memoirs of a Geisha and The Last Samurai), Masashi Fujimoto, Caroline Chikezie and Hiroyuki Watanabe. Sierra/Affinity is managing global gross revenue at Berlin.
Salma Hayek plays a role of a woman Everly who is facing much bad luck and has to prevent series of attacks of several assassins who try to kill her on the orders of her ex — a treacherous and ruthless mob boss. She is holed up in her residence and she has to struggle to save her alienated mother and daughter. Salma decided to take and work on this film project at Cannes previous year. This film is actually based on Yale Hannon’s Black List script.
Everly is actually an FBI informant and mysteriously turns the tables on one attacker and then keeps battling with other Japanese gangsters. The most interesting thing about this film is that most of the fighting happens in Everly's apartment.
"You've never seen me like this before," says Hayek about the movie that has recently finished production (no launch date in America so far). "And I love it. Because you really see a transformation in this character that's noticeable and shocking. I become a badass.''
Singapore venture Vega, Baby, Adam Ripp and Rob Paris’ Crime Scene Pictures, Luke Rivett of Anonymous Content and Andrew Pfeffer has been announced to produce as well as finance the movie. Brett Hedblom has been announced to co-produce the movie, while Rizal Risjad (who is known for film Gambit) will be the executive producer.
Salma Hayek recently appeared in comedy movie “Grown Ups 2” along with Adam Sandler, and also in the TV show “30 Rock” created by the two times Golden Globes Awards Host Tina Fey. She is also working on a couple of other projects including “Muppets Most Wanted”, “The Tale of Tales” and “How to Make Love Like an Englishman”.
