Cate Blanchett Visited Philip Hoffman’s Family to Offer Her Condolences

All the loved ones and colleagues of Philip Seymour Hoffman are in deep shock and paying tribute to him after his sudden tragic demise a few days ago. While many celebrities and movie stars used social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook to express their sadness, the star of “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” – Cate Blanchett – who worked with Hoffman in The Talented Mr. Ripley in 1999, visited his ex-wife Mimi O'Donnell at her residence in New York City's West Village. The Australian actress, seeming dismal and wearing a black winter coat, flew in from California and arrived with toys for Hoffman’s 3 young children (son Cooper, 10, and daughters Tallulah, 7, and Willa 5).

Blanchett visited Hoffman’s family after taking part in the Santa Barbara Film Festival on Saturday night. She also worked with Hoffman to produce Sam Shepard's True West in 2010. It was a great gesture by Blanchett to personally offer her condolences to O'Donnell, who reportedly shouted in misery after hearing the news of Hoffman's demise, and the family afterward issued a statement saying, "We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving."

Justin Theroux, who worked with Hoffman in the unusual comedy film “Strangers With Candy”, also visited his family to pay tribute to great actor and offer his deep condolences. Moreover, renowned actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who also co-starred in Talented Mr. Ripley, paid her tribute to the great actor by sharing a vintage picture of herself along with Hoffman and other co-stars from their time together filming in Italy.

Tom Hanks, who worked with Hoffman in Charlie Wilson's War, was also in shock about the loss and said, “This is a horrible day for those who worked ‎with Philip. He was a giant talent. Our hearts are open for his family.”

The three times Oscar nominated actress Julianne Moore, who co-starred with Hoffman in 3 films including Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and The Big Lebowski, also expressed her grieves in an interview and said that she is so fortunate to have worked with him and is extremely distressed by his demise.

Hoffman appeared in the current Hunger Games film, and also won Oscar for Best Actor for "Capote." He got 3 Oscar nominations as Best Supporting Actor. He almost finished working on The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and Part 2. It seems that his death will not bring about any delays in their release dates.
