“The Lego Movie” Tops “Pompeii” and “3 Days to Kill” at Box Office This Weekend

Paul W.S. Anderson’s Action Adventure “Pompeii” and McG’s Crime Drama “3 Days to Kill” open all over the country this weekend, though neither looks to be able to break out at the home box office. So, animated film The LEGO Movie (directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller) has effortlessly snatched the top spot for the 3rd consecutive week.

Prehistoric Roman city of Pompeii was completely devastated when Mount Vesuvius circumstantially burst out in 79 A.D. Director Paul W.S. Anderson, who is very famous for Resident Evil franchise, enlivens this catastrophe in film Pompeii starring Kit Harington, who rose to fame from his role as Jon Snow in TV show “Game of Thrones”. The film has been released in more than 2500 cinemas this weekend, while Sony is managing home distribution under TriStar banner.

It is expected that Pompeii will have a huge profit overseas. Still, with a finance of nearly hundred million dollar, it has to grab minimum fifteen million this weekend.

On the other hand, “3 Days to Kill” has been produced by Luc Besson, who is best known for classic films like “Léon: The Professional” and “Taken”. Apart from the Taken franchise, his productions have not opened more than seventeen million at the U.S. box office. The plot of film “3 Days to Kill” revolves around an over-the-hill assassin (Kevin Costner) who is trying hard to get together with his daughter. It seems that this film will not be able to do better than the average Luc film; however, distributor Relativity is anticipating between $11 and $13 million.

Other top box office films include Robocop reboot, which takes number 3 spot with more than 11 million business at box office this weekend. “About Last Night” came at number 4 spot with more than ten million at box office. Mega budget film “Monuments Men” starring A-list actors like George Clooney, Matt Damon, Bill Murrey, Cate Blanchett, takes number 5 spot with 9.9 million at the box office this week. This film was one of the most anticipated films and was expected to take top spot at box office for a number of weeks, but it had not made as much profit as producers had expected.

So, which movie did you like the most out of these office hits this week? What are your views about “The Lego Movie” and “Pompeii”?
