Jack O’Connell Will Play Lead Role in Universal’s Spy Thriller “Section 6”

When it was recently publicized that the cast for The Fantastic Four would include Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, a large number of fans criticized that all these actors were most likely too youthful to live up to the classic comic roles - so I have to speculate how the fans would react about a spy thriller film with a spy who is just 23 years old. You would be quite surprised to know that “Eden Lake” star Jack O’Connell has been announced to play the lead role in Universal’s forthcoming spy thriller “Section 6”. O’Connell is expected to make critics much excited and happy later this year with his brilliant work in historical biographic film “Unbroken”, which is second directorial effort by renowned actress Angelina Jolie.

This is going to be the debut movie for Aaron Berg as a screenwriter, who had to go through a bidding conflict. Universal studio had to spend several million dollars for the script of the film and vowed that they would complete the project as soon as possible. Wolverine star Hugh Jackman had earlier shown interest in the role, but Jack was given preference and is the foremost official cast. However, it has not been confirmed so far who is going to helm the film. Universal studio is in talks with many renowned directors in this regard. Universal anticipates that this project has great potential to turn out to be a big franchise.

If you are wondering about the story of the film, it is based on events that happened in Britain during World War I, when the British regime started working on MI6 (Military Intelligence, Section 6) to inspect the strength of armed forces of overseas regimes including Russia, USA, and specifically Germany. The film will revolve around MI6’s sly first director, Sir George Mansfield Cummings, who was the motivation for Foreign Intelligence wing director “M” in Ian Fleming’s series of Bond novels. He was also an inspiration for a spy character in the film Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, which is actually based on John le Carre’s thriller novel.

We are still not sure that what kind of spy role O’Connell will be playing, but it is expected that he will not play Cummings role. After rising to fame in the thriller Eden Lake opposite Michael Fassbender, and the British TV show “Skins”, O’Connell seems to shortly be on reviewers’ wits for more than just his role in Unbroken.
