Michael Douglas to play Hank Pym in upcoming Marvel Film Ant-Man

From Liberace to superhero, Michael Douglas has been reported to play the character of scientist Hank Pym in Marvel’s forthcoming film Ant-Man after grabbing the Golden Globe Sunday for “Behind the Candelabra", as per a number of media sources.

The film will be directed by Edgar Wright, while the script will be written by Joe Cornish.

“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves. We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life”, said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.

Observers have been inquisitive for a little bit to check out how Wright would helm the creation of “Ant-Man,” as the character was represented in the comics by both Pym and Scott Lang. Douglas’ role Hank Pym was the original Ant-Man, a scientist who found out the skills to reduce his size equal to insects or increase equal to the elephants. He made use of such expertise to fight malevolence and when he retired, he gave such skills and title of “Ant-Man” to Lang, which will be played by Paul Rudd. According to the comics, Lang was a burglar who stole the Ant-Man technology in order to save the life of his ailing daughter, but afterward took the responsibility of the superhero with the guidance and consent of Pym.

"I've been dying to do a Marvel picture for so long. The script is really fun, the director is really good. [My son] Dylan will love it. He'll have a picture he can see", Douglas said.

The Oscar and Golden Globe winner had pointed out that he saw the role of Pym as another wacky option to match up with his determination to play the showy pianist Liberace in Behind the Candelabra. The famous actor had won an Oscar Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his outstanding role of Gordon Gecko in "Wall Street". He is also well-known for a number of box office hits and commercial hit films such as "Basic Instinct", "Fatal Attraction", and "The Game". Besides acting, he has also showed his talent as a Producer on many movies like "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", for which he had grabbed Oscar for Best Picture.
