Avatar Girl – Zoe Saldana – Has Been Announced to Play Rosemary in the Remake of “Rosemary's Baby”

US TV network NBC is going to remake 1968’s flick “Rosemary's Baby” and has announced Avatar and Star Trek actress Zoe Saldana as the lead actor of the film. She is also known for her role in “Colombiana”, as well as upcoming film “Nina” and Marvel movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

Mia Farrow played the role of pregnant woman Rosemary in Roman Polanski’s original 1968 film Rosemary's Baby, which is actually a version of the 1967 popular suspense fiction by Ira Levin. The iconic young wife shifts into a new Paris apartment with her husband, only to be delimited by strange neighbors and incidences. She becomes convinced that her husband and the strange neighbors have hidden intentions about her unborn child.

Polish director Agnieszka Holland has been announced to direct the 4-hour series. He is also known for the direction of HBO’s Crime Drama TV shows “The Wire” and “Treme”. He also directed “In Darkness”, which was nominated for Oscars. Scott Abbott, who is known for "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge", and horror genius James Wong, who is widely known for "The X-Files" and "American Horror Story", have been chosen to come up with an epic script.

“Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin’s infamous novel. With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this reimagined event mini-series is off to a great start”. NBC's Executive Vice President Quinn Taylor said about the selection of Saldana as Rosemary.

Saldana lately finished working on film Nina co-starring British actor David Oyelowo. Written and directed by Cynthia Mort, Nina is a biopic of Nina Simone, who was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. She was also a civil rights campaigner broadly linked to jazz music.

Saldana’s casting as Nina had sparked disceptation, due to the fact that Saldana is actually a Dominican-American while Nina was an African-American. Saldana reacted to some criticism by expressing her views in a magazine interview in 2013: "I do wish that people made their own judgment after they watch the movie... the one thing that we all have in common is an unconditional love and admiration and respect for Nina Simone. Something that's done out of love, in my mind, can't be right or wrong."

Is she good fit for Rosemary role? What do you think?
