It has been reported that Sam Worthington, 37, and Zoë Saldana, 35, have officially been chosen for all 3 forthcoming Avatar sequels. The actors will reprise their roles as Neytiri and Jake Sully respectively.
Director James Cameron has decided to make and release the three movies back-to-back-to-back sequence, which means that the 2nd film will be released on December 2016, following the 3rd film in December 2017 and the 4th in December 2018. Just like Director Peter Jackson has planned for his three “The Hobbit” films.
Further details on the film plot are kept secret, but a number of media sources have reported that Neytiri and Jake Sully are married and have kids in the upcoming sequels. It is a bit odd as well as interesting that the actor Stephen Lang, whose character Colonel Quaritch was killed in the original film, has also been announced to play same character in the all three movies. It will be interesting to see how the director will bring Colonel Quaritch back to life in the upcoming sequel.
Director James Cameron has compared his upcoming three movies with “The Godfather”. He is planning to shoot the sequels in New Zealand. As per a number of media sources, the director has disclosed that all the sequels will center on Sam Worthington’s character Jake Sully. Moreover, to facilitate in making a realistic universe and the life on planet Pandora, Cameron has decided to work together with screenwriters Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno, who are known for the hit films like War of the Worlds, Rise of the Planets of the Apes, and Savages respectively.
"Jake Sully is a rare combination of passion, strength, street smarts and soul, which requires a lot from an actor. Sam brought to the role a combination of sensitivity, vulnerability and strength. Zoë captured every aspect of the character I envisioned, bringing to Neytiri a mix of delicacy, fierceness and incredible physicality. I am beyond pleased they'll be returning with us to Pandora”, Cameron said.
