This is great news for Breaking Bad fans that Jonathan Banks (known as Mike Ehrmantraut) will be seen again in Breaking Bad's upcoming prequel "Better Call Saul", alongside Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman). In original TV show, Jonathan played the role of Mike who was the security manager of Gustavo Fring's (played by Giancarlo Esposito) meth business prior to teaming up with Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul) after Fring's death. Jonathan was nominated for Emmy awards for his outstanding performance in Season 5, which was second nomination for the veteran actor. He had earned his first nomination for Emmy award for his performance in the 1987 drama series Wiseguy.
Produced by Vince Gilligan, the hotly-anticipated prequel "Better Call Saul" will revolve around calm criminal lawyer Saul’s fishy career before the upshots of the original series. Besides Mike, it is still unknown that which ones of the other original series characters will appear in the show. However, Gilligan has given us a slight hint that some of the other characters will definitely appear in the upcoming show. Most likely, we will see Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo 'Gus' Fring and Lavell Crawford as Huell again.
In an interview, Gilligan has said that he would love to see Mike on “Better Call Saul” prequel. Aaron Paul’s character Jesse has also been much discussed. Bryan Cranston has also openly said that he would love to make a return as Walter White again in some parts of the spin-off that has further widened Jonathan’s association with Sony TV, where he presently reappeared as Professor Buzz Hickey on the NBC comedy series Community.
Banks joining the prequel implies that Goodman will have his reliable personal fixer and security advisor “Mike” by his side. Banks remained regular on original series for almost 3 seasons and then he was killed by Walter in the fifth season while attempting to give up the meth business.
It seems that character of Mike has helped Jonathan to get many good offers for different roles in upcoming films. We will see Jonathan in couple of upcoming films like the comedy "Authors Anonymous" along with Kaley Cuoco (who is known as Penny in The Big Bang Theory), film "Bullet" alongside Danny Trejo and another comedy sequel "Horrible Bosses 2".
The first premiere of “Better Call Saul” has been projected to be released on AMC in November 2014.
So, are you excited?
