Oscar’s bellwether – Directors Guild of America – Has Announced Five Best Directors Nominations

The 5 nominations of the Directors Guild Award (DGA) have been presented for brilliant Directorial performance in a 2013 Feature Film. These nominees are projected to be best 5 contestants for Academy Awards. Following are the renowned Directors who have been chosen by DGA:

Martin Scorsese – The Wolf of Wall Street
Paul Greengrass – Captain Phillips
Steve McQueen – 12 Years a Slave
David O. Russell – American Hustle
Alfonso Cuaron – Gravity

In spite of the competition among Best Director for the Oscars being one of the more greatly challenging ones in 2014, the DGA nominations are not quite surprising, as those films are already considered to be Oscar contenders and have grabbed several early awards.

Alfonso Cuaron, Steve McQueen and David O. Russell are now further being projected as the best 3 competitors for best director, and their block-buster movies are all competing against each other for leading position as the best film of the year. That is how things are looking; however, Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave” has been leading for a while now, but David O. Russell’s “American Hustle” is the single movie among all these films to have been nominated by all the guilds. Yet, it is difficult to put anything ahead of “12 Years a Slave”, but if “American Hustle” has the potential to turn all the guild nominations into victories, think twice.

In addition, apparently the “Captain Phillips” director Paul Greengrass, who has always been prominent on the awards course, has also been locked up for the best director’s award. Similar to his movie, it looks like that he has mutely entrenched his position among best 5 nominations. Martin Scorsese has the least hopes of winning among all of them. “The Wolf of Wall Street” has turned out to be incessantly discordant among industry officials, and if the Oscars jury finds out further unconstructive aspects, the movie could wind up unexpectedly inadequate representation on nominations morning.

The DGA has not been enjoying finest conversion rate to Oscars since a number of years, just matching 5 times in its long forty-three years’ history, bringing about condition like previous year. There were 3 nominations from DGA in 2013 – Kathryn Bigelow, Tom Hooper and Ben Affleck. They were rejected by the Oscars for strange causes. So, everybody is anticipating about what fortune awaits 2014’s selection of directors?

The DGA is going to announce its fort-runners on Jan. 25.
