Do you memorize how thrilled X-Men fans were when it was declared that Taylor Kitsch would play the role of Gambit in X-Men: Origins – Wolverine? But, the initial try of 20th Century Fox to bring Gambit into live-action motion picture had proven to be a major blunder. Most of the audiences were disappointed after watching how dreadful the whole thing turned out to be. The version of the character had 2 main issues: he was unable to talk in his typical New Orleans accent, and he actually had no reason of being in the script. After this letdown, we didn’t hear anything regarding the Gambit until now.
It seems that Lauren Shuler Donner – the producer of X-Men: Days of Future Past – wants to improve all of that by making a solo Gambit film that really values the source material into production. For this film, she wants Channing Tatum to take a lead role as Gambit. What's more, the 64-years-old producer has even contemplated the possible film scale and what type of story or script should be written, and she has seemingly already conversed the opportunity with the 33-years-old star Tatum.
"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart," she said.
You may know about the fact that this is not the first time Tatum is being considered to play Gambit. “21 Jump Street” star was actually in talks with the producers to play Gambit in X-Men: The Last Stand 2006, but his role was eventually removed from the script. The interesting aspect is that Tatum is also very much interested in playing Gambit, as he had expressed his views about this mutant role on the press visit for his film White House Down in 2013.
"I would like to play Gambit," Tatum said. "Gambit's my favorite. I'm from New Orleans, around that area. My dad's from New Orleans, and I like to do a Cajun accent. I could do it for real."
When it is going to happen? It’s not confirmed yet and is a total mystery. Fox has many plans for X-Men franchise, particularly for the launch of X-Men: Apocalypse.
Do you think Channing Tatum as Gambit is a good decision?
