The Basketball Diaries Director Scott Kalvert Has Passed Away at Age 49

Another artistic celebrity has left this world too early. One of the well-known directors, Scott Kalvert, has passed away at his home in Woodland Hills, California. According to initial investigations, it has been insinuated by the officials that his death might be a possible suicide. No detailed information has been shared with media sources and it has not been confirmed what lay enforcement officials found when they reached his home.

Scott Kalvert was mainly known for directing the 1995 drama “The Basketball Diaries”, which stars young Leonardo DiCaprio and the “Ted” star Mark Wahlberg, who had brought back some controversy when Mark told some media sources that Leo wanted to keep Mark out of the film, as he was mad over some insulting or boastful speech.

"Leonardo was like, 'Over my dead f---ing body. Marky Mark's not going to be in this f---ing movie,'" Wahlberg recalled. "Because we'd had a thing—I didn't even realize it, [but] I was a bit of a dick to him at a charity basketball game. So he was like, 'This f---ing a--hole is not going to be in this movie.'"

Prior to coming up with his feature directorial debut on The Basketball Diaries, Scott was quite famous for helming various music videos such as D.J. Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince's "Parents Just Don't Understand”, Taylor Dayne's "Tell It to My Heart", Marky Mark, Funky Bunch's "Good Vibrations", and New Kids On The Block's 1993 video for "Dirty Dawg". Scott also directed various music videos in association with Donnie Wahlberg, who expressed her deep condolences and grievance over the demise of his old friend and co-worker.

"#RIP to a dear friend; Scott Kalvert," he tweeted. "The role you played in mine, and my brother [Mark's] career success, can't be measured. You'll be missed."

Kalvert’s last film as a director was 2002 crime film “Deuces Wild”, which starred a number of prominent actors including Stephen Dorff, Brad Renfro, Drea de Matteo, James Franco, Frankie Muniz, Fairuza Balk, Norman Reedus, Debbie Harry and Matt Dillon. He lately worked as an executive producer on Nick Cannon's 2009 movie “School Gyrls,” starring Justin Bieber and Soulja Boy.

The investigation on his sudden death is still underway. The law enforcement officials will confirm after thorough investigation that whether he killed himself or died a natural death. The cause of death is still unknown so far.
