What happens when two great minds join forces for a particular TV show? Well, we are about to witness, as the director Bryan Singer has been announced to direct the pilot of “Breaking Bad” creator’s show “Battle Creek”, which is a drama about 2 detectives and has a order of thirteen episodes from the CBS network. Bryan Singer will also serve as an executive producer along with Mark Johnson.
Created and executive produced by Gilligan, Battle Creek revolves around the complicated affiliation between 2 very unusual detectives, as they make great effort to capture the criminals in their own unique ways. According to the plot details, the detectives have quite diverse world perceptions: one uses skepticism, slyness and trickery despite an absolute shortage of resources to crackdown the semi-mean streets. The other depends on gullibility, hope and a huge amount of resources to carry out his objectives.
Dean Winters (who is known for TV show “Oz”) will play the character Detective Russ Agnew, while Kal Penn (known for Harold & Kumar) will appear as “Detective Fontanelle” (aka “Font”). Russ is a realistic cop with no or low leniency for non-senses and criminals, and is always prepared to do whatever it takes to catch a number of violent and dangerous criminals. This bad-tempered approach has earned Russ a strong belief, but not precisely made him lovable to his colleagues. As it should be, FBI Agent Milton Bradley (yes, that’s in fact the character for which cast is yet to be announced) is Agnew’s unenthusiastic new partner, who has totally different mind and ways.
The other cast members are Edward Fordham Jr. (Key & Peele) as “Detective Aaron Funkhauser”, Janet McTeer (The White Queen) as “Commander Guziewicz, and Aubrey Dollar (666 Park Avenue) as “Holly.”
The X-Men: First Class director had also directed as well as co-produced the pilot for David Shore‘s successful medical TV show “House”, starring Hugh Laurie. Now they are teaming up again on CBS‘ Battle Creek. Bryan also works in the same aptitude on ABC’s imminent drama “Black Box”. Besides working on TV shows, he is almost done with his upcoming mega-budget, most anticipated film “X-Men: Days Of Future Past”.
Gilligan at first engaged Battle Creek to networks nearly ten years ago, but failed to work on the project. With several prominent awards under his belt for one of the all time favorite shows “Breaking Bad”, it’s not at all startling that CBS now grabbed the opportunity to work with him.
