One of the much anticipated films of the YEar, Disney's MaRVel superhero sequel leads overseas box office with $75.2 million launch, taking first place in almost all international markets. It is set to launch in the U.S. on Friday AND is expected to turn out to be the year's best home debut, with above $80 million throughout the country.
The largest international markets were Korea with more than $11 million and the United Kingdom with nearly 10 million. According to the U.K. estimates — the initial film “Captain America: The First Avenger” was able to grab more than $14.5 million during its complete run in UK. Other big international markets are Mexico with more than $8 million, France with nearly $6.5 million, Italy with nearly $4 million and Germany with $3.8 million.
The original 2011 film succeeded to get more than $175 million in US and more than $190 million in international markets. It had made more than $65 million in its opening weekend. This happened before the launch of “Avengers” - the 2012’s best film with $1.5 billion worldwide success altered the game for all following Marvel’s superhero movies.
The sequel ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ starring Chris Evans, Frank Grillo, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson is the 3rd mega-budget film to open after Marvel's "The Avengers” and “Thor: The Dark World". This superhero sequel evidently rode the drive given by the 2012 superhero smash hit “The Avengers”.
Shane Black’s “Iron Man 3” and Thor’s sequel “Thor: Dark World” turned out to be more like follow-ups to the “Avengers” rather than sequels to their originals. “Iron Man 3” almost grabbed overall $1.21 billion, which is almost twice more than the “Iron Man 2”. While the Thor sequel got $644 throughout the world, than $449 million of its original movie earned.
Chris Evans has come back as the red-white-and-blue war champion in $170 million budget sequel directed by Anthony Russo and Joe Russo. Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson are reprising their roles as Black Widow and Nick Fury, respectively.
According to the plot details, captain America (Steve Rogers) attempting to grip his role in what seems like more advanced future world, while fighting the Soviet war hero who is called as the Winter Soldier. It will be fascinating to see how better the film does in Russia, where it is going to launch on Thursday — mainly after seeing the current stand-off between the America and Russia over Crimea.
